Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu just had another disastrous weekend at the box office. Despite being the first new live-action Star Wars movie in seven years, the film has failed to bring in the crowds Star Wars films of the past would. Disney and Lucasfilm were banking on families turning up after the front-loaded fan opening weekend but unfortunately for them, people are picking other entertainment.
Deadline are reporting that that the Jon Favreau directed flick is continuing to struggle with the latest box office figures. Last week, the film was 3rd in the domestic box office but it has now tumbled to 6th position.
In terms of cash, the film earned $10m this weekend. That is a 59% drop over last weekend which was already a 61% decline on the opening weekend. Friday specifically was a 61% drop. It is still showing in over 3500 theatres country wide but has lost out on some IMAX showings to Masters of the Universe which has opened to rough figures.

The The Mandalorian and Grogu’s domestic haul now stands at $155.8m after 3 weeks. Combining domestic and international box office figures brings the entire box office amount to $293.6 million.
It was previously reported that The Mandalorian and Grogu’s budget including marketing is $300 millon. With the cinema’s cut of each ticket, the film will need to earn a lot more if it wants to break even.
There’s a good chance it won’t even reach Solo A Star Wars Story’s $392.9 million global tally which is considered an awful run. That film did cost a lot less to make than Mando and Grogu but ticket prices are higher these days. This is not the return for Star Wars that Lucasfilm was looking for.
