Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have held talks with Gina Carano following the settlement of her lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company. This news will disappoint some fans given the reasons for her sacking.
In 2021, Carano was famously dismissed from her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. Disney sacked her for sharing a post on social media that compared the treatment of conservatives during the COVID-19 pandemic to how Jewish people were during the Holocaust. Prior to this, the MMA fighter had spread a string of claims of election fraud, pandemic-related critique and insensitive remarks on trans people.
The Walt Disney Company were sued by Gina in 2024 for wrongful termination and discrimination. She sought tens of thousands of dollars in compensation and to reprise her role as Cara Dune. The lawsuit was settled out of court last summer. Disney said that they’d look forward to “identifying opportunities to work together” in the future following the settlement. This led to some fans speculating if she would end up returning to Star Wars one day. As you’ll see below, a discussion has been had with the new head of Lucasfilm Dave Filoni.
Speaking With Her Former Collaborators

A few days ago, CinemaBlend spotted that the martial artist appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show to talk about a variety of topics. This included her exile from Hollywood. Ariel Helwani asked Carano if she feels like she’d be welcomed back into that world. The actor is unsure but noted “anybody in Hollywood, producers, directors, would come up to me and say ‘They did you dirty'”.
From here, Carano goes onto reveal that she had a talk with new Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni and filmmaker Jon Favreau who she worked with on The Mandalorian. Below is a transcript of what she said relating to her talk with the two Star Wars creatives:
“I’ve already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Really lovely. After we settled the lawsuit, we got on a Zoom call. It was really nice. Dave Filoni taking over, CEO of Star Wars. And it’s like we didn’t even miss a beat and Jon Favreau was really funny. Got on the Zoom and he’s like ‘So, where did we leave off?’ And we had we hadn’t spoke for a while. And he was like, ‘Where did we leave off?'”
Whether the talk between the three was anything more than a short, friendly conversation remains to be seen. Carano offered no hints as to if she would get the opportunity to come back into the franchise now the lawsuit was settled and Filoni is at the helm of Lucasfilm.
At the time of Gina Carano’s social media posts going viral on social media, Lucasfilm issued a statement calling them “abhorrent and unacceptable”. With new a regime change, who knows what the future will be like for Star Wars going forward.
