The Mandalorian Season 4’s status still remains a little bit of a mystery ahead of big screen release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Writer and director Jon Favreau has been on record as recent as November to say that scripts for the continuation are still on his desk. As we approach The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s release, fans of the show are wondering if there will be a Season 4.
In a new interview with Empire Magazine, the showrunner of The Mandalorian spoke on all things relating to his new film that he calls a culmination of his show and work. The film is cover story for May’s Empire issue and it comes with a ton of new insights from the cast and crew.
As mentioned by Empire, Jon Favreau wrote the entirety of The Mandalorian Season 4 following his work on Season 3. However, both the writers’ and actors’ strikes paused development on the fourth season. With a lack of theatrical releases in the studios’ pipeline, Favreau admits the “priority shifted”. Season 4 of The Mandalorian was “shelved” for a big screen story which we now know as The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Currently, the upcoming film is not exactly setting the world alight with excitement. The marketing campaign has been weak but the premise is also a hard sell to the wider audience. Will we see a transition back to TV for a fourth season of Din and Grogu’s story? Possibly. Favreau has hinted he might be stepping away from Star Wars once the film comes out. On top of that, if TMAG performs poorly at the box office, we might see Lucasfilm shift strategy change once again.
The Mandalorian and Grogu-fronted issue of Empire is on sale now at newstands. The film will be launching into cinema and IMAX screens on May 22nd.
In other The Mandalorian and Grogu news this week, the film’s first TV spot aired. It contains footage not found in the the previous two trailers for the movie. You can check it out here.
