Today One Take News are reporting that Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, better known as The Daniels, the directors behind the Academy Award winning, Everything Everywhere All At Once, will be helming an episode of the upcoming Mandalorian spin-off series, Skeleton Crew.

The Daniels are coming off Everything Everywhere All At Once, their latest release which garnered mass critical acclaim and swept the most recent Academy Awards with a whopping seven wins, including Best Picture. Their previous work includes the flick, Swiss Army Man, television work such as Legion and Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, as well as the popular music video, Turn Down For What by DJ Snake and Lil’ Jon. The duo are a hot commodity in Hollywood currently given their success with Everything Everywhere, and their next directorial work is an episode of a television series titled Mason which is expected to release later this year.

At the time of writing, the only director attached to Skeleton Crew, outside of the Daniels, is the series co-creator, Jon Watts, who’s best known for his directorial work on the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, a collaboration between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. Watts created the series alongside Christopher Ford, who worked on the Spider-Man trilogy alongside Watts, as well as writing the Daisy Ridley led, Chaos Walking. The series stars Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore) as a teacher, with the story focusing on a group of children lost in the galaxy trying to find their way back home. The series is inspired by eighties Amblin movies such as The Goonies, and is slated to release on Disney+ later this year.

I’d heard a rumour towards the tail end of last year regarding the duo directing an episode of a Star Wars television series, but could not get additional sources to verify the information. It’s reassuring that One Take News has heard it from multiple sources, so perhaps we’ll see the in demand duo in a galaxy far, far away pretty soon.

It’s also worth mentioning that Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic shared last week that he’d heard of Skeleton Crew suffering issues during production. This information isn’t anything new as myself and MakingStarWars.net have independently reported on the production issues that plagued the series a handful of months ago which included management issues, staff being fired and quitting, along with low morale amongst crew members.
