A new Star Wars Galactic Racer update could be close to release after a couple of key details were accidentally made public via a Steam API. As we know, the developers have big plans for content updates and are looking to address key complains fast.
We were browsing SteamDB a couple of days ago and spotted a new depot for the game was added. The depot actually contains a couple of very interesting differences compared to the current version of the game.
This depot was titled guilherme_test_crash. The name indicates this is a build of Galactic Racer made specifically for a game crash fix/test. There is a credited tester working on Galactic Racer named Guilherme meaning this is likely related to him; perhaps the issue was assigned/found by the tester. The test branch of the game was removed half a minute later indicating a mistake.

Interestingly, this update’s file size is quite different with this build. The download size is 35.27 GB compared to 34.80 GB for the most recent update. Meanwhile the installed file size is 41.15 GB. That’s a over 2GB more than the current version of the game on PC. The most recent update came in at 38.71 GB. In comparison, the prior 2 hotfixes did not change the file size in any meaningful way -/+ around 5/6mb.
This is different from update download sizes where you have to download the amount of files that have been changed rather than what’s been added. This is a fundamental increase in file size. It seems unlikely that two and a half gigabytes of bug fixes were made to bump up the file size. Nothing is for certain though.
There’s always the chance this build of the game contains dev tools among other internal use only items but maybe there’s a few new things included in the next Galactic Racer update? That’s just us speculating for now.
