Star Wars Battlefront 3 might be happening. This is huge news for Star Wars gaming fans as Disney has big plans for the series. They are reportedly in talks with two game development studios over the future of the best selling franchise.
As discussed by Jeff Grubb on this Game Mess Mornings podcast this morning, there was a slew of new items for upcoming releases in a rumor mill section by Quarterman, a pen name for the editor of Electronic Gaming Monthly. Grubb is also a contributor of the magazine.
Issue 265 was sent to Kickstarter backers last week and the journalist read parts of the list. Among the titles in the list was Diablo 4 for Switch 2. This ended up coming to fruition as Blizzard recently announced this (the magazine was written over the summer so prior to to Blizzcon 2026 last month). The final item on the list was was Star Wars Battlefront 3. This the full quote and what is claimed:
“Others are also telling the Q that Disney has big plans for the Star Wars Battlefront series. Recognizing how EA’s Battlefront 2 has sustained popularity that only other Star Wars media could only dream of, you’d think they green light Battlefront 3. You’d be wrong. According to what your rumor monger has dug up, the suits at Lucasfilm have been aggressively deploying probe droids for a development partner to take on the task of creating a follow-up.
So far, no one fully stepped up but yours truly is hearing two major game studios are circling the project like a couple of snow speeders led by completely unsurprisingly EA and DICE who we can hope learn from their loot box lesson. There is another: the Q man hears if the force is not trusted with DICE, it could land at none other than Halo, Destiny and Marathon Developer Bungie.”

That’s right, EA/DICE and Bungie have shown some interest in what would be a sure-fire hit. As we reported on this week, Battlefront 2 was the best selling Star Wars game last year along with more stats showing how big it continues to be. Even the community is putting out major content updates as seen here. We also covered how Lucasfilm Games Vice President Douglas Reilly namedropped Battlefront as an example of games “central” part of their future strategy.
It would seem as though the daunting task to create a follow-up to a second instalment of the Battlefront series might finally be coming to an end. Major developers like DICE and Bungie being in the mix will surely have Star Wars fans excited as both studios have led major titles in the past.
Whilst some might think Bungie is an odd choice, they worked closely with Lucasfilm Games last year to make a Star Wars-themed expansion to Destiny 2 titles Renegades. The Seattle studio is currently under massive pressure after a series of failings and this could be their bacta tank boost.
