A small update on the untitled Star Wars game from Skydance New Media has been provided by the company. This comes alongside a bunch of change at the game development studio.
It has been over 4 years since Skydance announced that their Skydance New Media subsidiary would be creating a new Star Wars game. Led by award-winning writer and director Amy Hennig (best known for the Uncharted series), the company set out to build a “richly cinematic action-adventure game featuring an original story” with Lucasfilm Games.
Since then we’ve heard nothing about the game that is codenamed Project Walton. There was a rumour that the game might take some of Hennig’s work from her cancelled open world Star Wars game Project Ragtag, but nothing official. On top of that, there has been a lot of change happening at Skydance since the game’s announcement. Last year, they finalised a merger with Paramount. All of this has led to fans speculating if the game has been quietly cancelled. However, there is good news.
On Friday, Paramount Skydance announced they have combined two existing game studios, Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media. This new entity is called Paramount Games Studio. This newly formed subsidiary will be continuing to make their already announced games and will be making even more. One of them will be revealed later on Friday at Summer Games Fest.
According to Variety, they can confirm the untitled Star Wars game is still in development. This new just means it will now be under the Paramount Games Studio umbrella. Additionally, Amy Hennig will be moving on from her position as co-president. She will now take on the role as Paramount Games Studio’s Studio creative director. Meanwhile the other co-president, Julian Beak, has left the company.

“This division launch marks a meaningful evolution in how we think about games – not as an extension of our business, but as a core pillar of our content strategy alongside film, television and streaming.
We are committed to creating exceptional games for every type of player, from casual to AAA, and building enduring experiences across our beloved Paramount IP and original worlds that deepen fan engagement and drive long-term growth.”
Tony Driscoll, President of Paramount Games Studio
Paramount Games Studio’s first title will be the severely delayed Marvel 1943 game. After that, we’ll have a Star Wars game being their focus.
