Paramount Games Studios have just set an expectation as to when we should hear about their untitled Star Wars game. Announced back in 2022, the company that was previously known as Skydance New Media have been tight lipped about their “richly cinematic action-adventure game”. There has been virtually nothing mentioned about it in over 4 years and there’s a reason for that according to the studio.
Last week, Skydance New Media was rebranded and reorganised as Paramount Games Studio. The newly formed subsidiary confirmed to press that their Star Wars game led by award-winning writer and director Amy Hennig was very much still in the works. It had not been cancelled despite the lack of updates in almost half a decade.
In a new interview/report from GameFile‘s Stephen Totilo, Paramount Games Studio actually mentioned their in-development Star Wars game to the journalist. Shawn Kittelsen, Paramount Games Group’s head of creative and production was quizzed over their Star Wars game, codenamed Project Walton. He said that “the Star Wars game is one that we’ll have to talk about after [Marvel] 1943, because one at a time is enough.”
A similar answer was also given to IGN. “I think the best thing to think of is we’ve got to finish Marvel 1943. We’re very much focused on that. So one thing at a time and we’ll address Star Wars, talk about that when 1943 is finished. But first right now, all efforts are on 1943” Kittelsen told the outlet.

So that tells us what many of us expected. Skydance New Media now Paramount Games Studio has only really been putting together Marvel 1943 and we won’t see or hear about their Star Wars game until it is out of the door. 1943 has been delayed a few times now (late 2025, early 2026 and now “not before 2027”). It still does not have a release date. This means it will have taken around 8 years to make. Hopefully their Star Wars game does not take this long…
The Marvel game was announced the year before the Star Wars game and two years prior to the company’s formation. It is getting quite annoying for Star Wars fans who are finding these games to be announced many years before they are ready to come out.
That said, it is at least good to know it is still next up. Also, we’ve also seen far too many studios work on too many projects simultaneously and it can be a recipe for disaster. Building a team and tools take many years. A lot of work done on 1943 lays the foundations for the Star Wars game.
