Whilst the Jon Favreau-directed adventure opened to a better than expected opening weekend, ticket sales at the box office fell off a cliff in the second weekend. This continued as the weeks went by in an extremely disappointing theatrical run.
Previously, we learned how Disney were claiming to not only take into account the $340m box office figure. Instead, merchandise/toy sales plus Disney Park tickets and Disney+ viewers will also be used to justify the film’s reported $300m (with marketing) budget.
It will be interesting to see how the Favreau and Filioni flick film fairs on disc and digital services over the next few months. We’ll be taking a look at any data that ends up being published so stay tuned for that.
