The second season of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will be coming in 2027. That’s according to the show’s writer.
During the Inside Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord panel at D23 on Sunday, Matt Michnovetz confirmed a rough time frame for when we’ll see the next blockbuster season from Lucasfilm Animation. Fans recorded this reveal and posted it to social media.
Shadow Lord was a hit for the company in terms of animation projects. Even before it released earlier this year, Lucasfilm’s co-president Dave Filoni confirmed that Maul’s “journey will continue with a second season”. Since then, many fans have been speculating that it could come out as early as this Fall or Winter. That never seemed realistic and it has been proven true.
StarWars.com editor-in-chief Kristin Baver asked Michnovetz during the Shadow Lord panel if he could tell fans anything about Season 2. He told the crowd that it will release in 2027 on Disney+. It won’t begin airing in 2026. As for when exactly next year it will release is still under wraps. Michnovetz did not offer any indication.

“It (Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2) comes out next year in 2027”

As we know, Star Wars is going to have a huge year in 2027. Ahsoka Season 2 was just confirmed to come out in January, Starfighter hits cinemas in May, Celebration takes place just before and A New Hope’s 1977 version is back in theatres as of February. We could see Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2 fit in-between Ahsoka Season 2 and Celebration; perhaps closer to Celebration/May. The first season premiered in April and ended on May 4th with a two-episode finale.
