Star Wars Starfighter got its first teaser trailer at D23 and wowed fans. Plus, we have a new logo for the film and details on characters and plot. We’ll be providing a description of the footage and a link to where it can be viewed, before it is removed by the house of mouse.
As previously leaked, Lucasfilm took to the Disney Studio Showcase Panel stage on Friday night to unveil the first look at next year’s blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling.
The leading man is playing Kade Auberon, a “cynical rogue is confronted by his mysterious past”. His first name was leaked earlier this year along with other details but his surname is new information. The pilot “is hurled into a dangerous adventure across the galaxy that puts him on a crash course with destiny” says StarWars.com.
Gosling told the audience at D23 that “Kade is a guy from the wrong side of the galaxy, whose fate is intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever built.” Meanwhile director Shawn Levy teased how “Starfighter embodies the themes of hope, family and adventure that have always been core to Star Wars, but our story takes place in a period of time that has never been seen before which has been a privilege to create and explore”.
Watch The Star Wars Starfighter Teaser
Now we have some background info, let’s take a look at the teaser which can be watched below (at the time of writing, Disney are removing uploads). The trailer has not been publicly released. This was for attendees only and some managed to record it on their phone.
Star Wars Starfighter Teaser Description
The teaser trailer opens with Flynn Gray’s character opening a door into a workshop of sorts. A starfighter has a cover on it and the room’s walls are computers. Gray lifts up the dusty cover on the ship to reveal the front. The kid places his hand on the ship before Kade (Gosling) can be heard shouting “Hey! Didn’t I tell you not to touch it?” A wide shot shows Kade Auberon stood in the door way and plenty more lights and terminals on that wall.
There are a couple of shots showing Gray looking at the ship in awe. He ends up asking Auberon “What kind of starfighter is this?” As Auberon walks towards Gray, he tells the boy that this is a “decommissioned G-17 Imperial Reaper…fastest starfighter ever built”. As our main protagonist begins to pull the cover back over it, Gray tells him he has “never heard of it.” Auberon quips “there’s a reason for that.”
Shots of a speeder bike racing across swampland is shown before we get a look at Auberon standing at the bottom of a landing ramp, likely of the G-17 Imperial Reaper. We can see his outfit from behind. The leather jacket he has on contains a Rebel Alliance firebird logo upside down above 2 blasters crossed in a skull and crossbones formation. Gosling’s character is also carrying what appears to be a large blaster/weapon on his right shoulder.
Next up are a couple of shots of Kade welding and repairing the G-17. He then straps himself into the ship. We then see a ship gliding across water, an large body containing huge tree-like structures. This seems to be a skiff of some sort weaving through the trees on the water.

Close ups of a ship take-off sequence are shown. Buttons pressed, engines firing up. A brand new droid gets shown in the cockpit. The droid has a glossy grey look to it all over and features two light blue eyes on a rounded, pill-shaped head. We see the droid taking off in the ship within some kind of hangar that is covered in flames. A group of several people are firing green blaster bolts at it.
A high up walkway begins to pull apart in a large grey environment. Another walkway is shown splitting apart with Kade on one side and Flynn Grey running and jumping over the gap.
To end the teaser, Kade pulls off the covers from the G-17. He stares into the cockpit glass facing the camera on before we see light rays beam over the new starfighter. This reveals an all-new logo which can be seen at the top of the article. This is a throwback to the classic Star Wars logo.
Whilst short, it does give us our first glimpse of the film outside of a few photos and it has a quality feel to it. Something that has been lacking from Star Wars live action projects in recent years. Star Wars: Starfighter blasts into cinemas and IMAX screens on May 28th 2027.
In other Starfighter news, IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said this week that he is betting big on the Ryan Gosling-led film and here’s why.
