Another person as put out praise for Star Wars Starfighter even though it is still many months away. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond has shared his thoughts on the film based on what he’s seen personally.
In a new interview with Matt Belloni of The Town, Gelfond echoed what we’ve heard from other sources about the Ryan Gosling-led and Shawn Levy-directed flick. It continues to be highly anticipated by Star Wars fans for a variety of reasons including cast, crew and other members of the industry praising it during post-production. Most recently Matt Smith and writer Jonathan Tropper expressed desperation for fans to see it.
As we know, Star Wars Starfighter will be coming to cinemas and IMAX screens worldwide on May 28th 2027. IMAX is getting both Starfighter and the Star Wars 1977 re-release in 2027 following The Mandalorian and Grogu this year.
CEO Rich Gelfond told Belloni about the next set of IMAX films he is most looking forward to coming off the back of an impressive repeat hits at the box office this summer. The CEO revealed that he has been to the set of Star Wars Starfighter and that it is a “throwback” to the “Harrison Ford kind of Star Wars”. We previously heard how the film reportedly brings back the “Star Wars magic” from the Original Trilogy.
“We have the next Star Wars coming and I’ve been on set. The Ryan Gosling one and that’s a throwback to the Harrison Ford kind of Star Wars.”
Belloni responded by saying “They (Disney) hope” that is what the film achieves given the box office bomb that was The Mandalorian and Grogu. The CEO said “Well Matt, I’m on a limb on this one. I’ll tell you, take that to the bank. I think it’s going to be good.”
That’s quite a statement from the man in charge of the it-company in Hollywood this summer.
