The Force is strong with Meta. 3D versions of films and special VR enhanced versions of Star Wars titles are coming to devices near you.
During Meta Connect 2026 on Wednesday, Meta and ILM announced two new collaborations: 3D films via Disney+ on existing devices and an all new way to watch Star Wars films. Let’s take a look at both.
New Star Wars Films In 3D Releases
Meta revealed on their stage last night that they’ve collaborated with Disney to bring 3D films to their headsets. Disney+ is finally getting an app for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S. It will feature many films in 3D from the back catalog bug also new releases. Footage shown for this was of Rogue One’s Scarif space battle as seen in the image below. This will go live later in 2026 for select regions.
The Meta VR Glasses which were also announced during the keynote last night showcased this in action. During the Meta VR Glasses reveal video featured an actor putting on the glasses and asking Meta AI “Hey Meta, play Rogue One.” It then opened to showing footage of Darth Vader watching the Tantive IV flee as seen in the photo above.
VR Star Wars Film App
One of the big launch apps for new hardware is the Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app. This is described as an immersive experience that explores how technology can expand the possibilities of storytelling by bringing some of the most iconic moments in cinematic history into a new kind of viewing experience.
Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM will be a hub for VR enhanced versions of feature films. The first two films announced for this project is Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope and Avengers: Infinity War.
This is not going to be the original, restored 1977 version that we’ll be seeing in cinemas next February but an enhanced version of the updated film. Disney Immersive Cinema combines traditional cinematic storytelling with immersive environmental effects that extend outside the frame of a traditional screen. Meta say “your surroundings will be transformed with immersive environments, dynamic effects, stunning 3D visuals, and spatial audio to feel like you’re not just watching a scene, but living inside it.”
“The movie itself remains unchanged and the centerpiece of the experience. In key scenes, elements of the story can expand into the viewer’s surroundings, using ILM’s enhanced cinema technology to create a greater sense of presence and deepen the emotional connection to the film.”

Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM will be available on the Meta VR Glasses, Quest 3 and 3S. Both the glasses and ILM app will launch in Spring 2027. The app is free and the glasses will cost $1299.99. No image was shown of what this new version of A New Hope will look like but they did give us a look at how Infinity War will look (pictured above). This gives us an idea for what we’ll see from a galaxy far, far away in this app.
