Star Wars Outlaws has received a small but welcomed graphics improvement as part of an update which PlayStation released on Tuesday. It already earned its spot as one of the best looking games on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox and PC but a system side tweak has now upped its graphical ceiling.
The PS5 Pro system update put out by Sony this week contains an improved version of the console’s upscaling technology PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Whilst some games such as Resident Evil 7 have received game-specific patches tailored to the game with PSSR improvements, every game that’s already using the original version of PSSR will benefit from the technology’s base improvements. Given that Star Wars Outlaws had already been enhanced for PS5 Pro and uses PSSR, the game now looks even better on the more powerful PS5.
Enhancing The Outer Rim
According to many players who have tested Star Wars Outlaws running on the latest PS5 Pro firmware, Ubisoft’s open world adventure sure looks better.
In locations such as Toshara and Akiva which are covered in foliage, you will find far less shimmering and artifacting. The smeared image of the older PSSR model is largely absent thanks to a cleaned up, sharper look. This is noticeable off into the distance. Even though testing has been limited by fans, the general consensus so far is the game is much better to look at now.

It is currently unknown if Massive Entertainment will patch Star Wars Outlaws with tuned improvements. Even though they are innovators in tech and supported the game well post launch with lots of positive updates, Ubisoft laid off staff at the studio in recent weeks including some key developers who worked on Outlaws.
The first truly open world Star Wars game launched in August 2024 to mixed reviews but featured impressive technology both under the hood and visually. As time has gone on, more and more people are continuing to discover this game and fall in love with it. We learned earlier this month how the game has become a hit on Xbox Game Pass and Switch 2.
How To Enable PSSR 2.0
If you’d like to enable this new iteration of PSSR four games like Jedi Survivor here’s how to do it.
- Make sure PS5 Pro is running the latest system software
- Go to Settings
- Go to Screen and Video
- Go to Video Output
- Go to Enhance PSSR Image Quality
- Ensure Enhance PSSR Image Quality is toggled ON
Also, make sure PSSR is selected under Upscaler Type in the game’s settings and not FSR.
