A new Star Wars game, made by Epic Games, has been delayed. The remaining development of it will also be powered by generative AI. That’s according to a new report.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has published a new article revealing some major information about the next Star Wars video game. In his article, the reporter shares that Epic Games have internally delayed the game from March 2027 to a later date. No specific time frame has been shared.
The game will not only be a Star Wars shooter game but also a Marvel x Star Wars crossover. This follows Lucasfilm and Marvel announcing a mashup comic series and LEGO sets. The game was previously leaked to be an extraction shooter inspired by titles such as ARC Raiders. Fans will be able to play as Star Wars and Marvel characters and take out AI enemies whilst trying to make it to an extraction zone.
Additionally, the report claims staff making the game have been ordered to turn the project into an “AI-first” production. Anthropic’s Claude is one of the tools making the game whilst human employees “manage” it. There will be no hand-written code according to a game director and even all of the game’s artwork will be “generated with full AI workflows.” This means artists are not making the game’s textures and such. Developers at Epic are not thrilled by this change.

Previously, the game was reportedly part of the upcoming Fortnite/Disney park expansion to the game. E.g. similar to LEGO Fortnite, you’d access it through Fortnite’s menu. However, Schreier has confirmed that it will be its own “separate game”.
In the last report from Bloomberg, they said Epic wanted to use the Star Wars content to “lure” fans into Fortnite. The target audience of these fans will be of the younger ages and an attempt to get them more into Disney’s IP.
Earlier this year, Epic had fans making Star Wars games within Fortnite. Whilst a few had tens of thousands peak concurrent players weeks after launch, it quickly died off and Star Wars fans ended up going to real Star Wars games instead. More recently, the company released Smugglers Gambit to mixed success.
